Is there a difference between reading glasses and computer glasses?

100% YES! I don’t know how many times I’ve made reading glasses and when the client comes to pick up they immediately place their reading card out to an arms length distance or want to check a computer :(. Sometimes clients will even say, “the doctor told me my vision hasn’t changes much, but now I can’t see everything” or “my old glasses work better”. This is because as you go up in power (need a stronger reading add) you naturally get wrapped into a tighter reading range. Does that mean you prescription is wrong? Nope, the goal for doctors during a vision exam is to get you to 20/20. This being said you might not really want single vision reading if you don’t work at that distance. Here are some examples of how prescriptions can be written and why communication is so important.

Your next step would be to find a wonderful optician to help you decide on the lens styles. Look for someone certified or licensed to help you! Look for someone that ASK QUESTIONS about your life style and what you want out of your lenses. Those answers give us a direction of which lens styles will be the perfect fit. Reading and intermediate prescriptions are different because they allow you to focus on TWO different distances.
READING / NEAR 11 – 16 INCHES AWAY
COMPUTER / INTERMEDIATE 16 – 45 INCHES AWAY
